No film yet, but I had a few minutes and thought I’d throw out a handful of numbers and whatnot from the Packers win over the Football Team.
Before the script was complete, the Packers averaged 5.0 yards per attempt. After completing the script, they averaged 6.4 yards per attempt.
The Packers went pass-heavy with their script, dialing up passes on 80% of their scripted plays. They actually went more run heavy (relatively speaking) after the script, only passing on 72.4% of the post-script plays.
Rodgers was 19/22 for 168 yards and 2 TDs in the 1st half and 8/12 for 106 yards and 1 TD in the 2nd half. Like I said. Run-heavy.
Between the Packers offensive line still being banged up and the strength of Washington’s front, it was tough sledding in the run game. When the Packers were just looking to pound the ball in the 4th quarter, they rushed 5 times for a total of 2 yards (0.4 YPA).
If you look at the Packers ground game in the box score, they ran 15 times for 57 yards. A not-great 3.8 YPA. That doesn’t tell the whole story, though. Of those 57 yards, 17 came on scrambles from Rodgers and 13 came on a jet sweep to Equanimeous St. Brown. If you look at the traditional running game, they rushed 12 times for 27 yards (2.25 YPA). That Washington front is no joke, especially against a line missing some key pieces.
Aaron Rodgers had a nice day all the way around, going 27/35 for 274 yards & 3 TDs (QB Rating 127.6). After a couple rough days when targeting deep (15+ yards down the field), Rodgers had a really nice day against the Football Team, going 3/4 for 71 yards and 1 TD (156.3 QB Rating)
Not that he was a slouch when targeting short. He was 23/28 for 192 yards and 2 TDs (119.1 QB Rating) when targeting within 15 yards of the LOS.
Taylor Heinicke had the deep TD to Terry McLaurin, but, aside from that, he didn’t do much past 15 yards. When targeting deep, Heinicke was 2/5 for 57 yards and 1 TD.
With Davante Adams “held” to a modest 76 yards on 6 receptions, Robert Tonyan and Allen Lazard had really nice games.
When targeting Tonyan, Rodgers was 4/5 for 63 yards and 1 TD (158.3 QB Rating). Tonyan is running a corner route over a flat route from Jones. That gets Tonyan against a LB off the line, with Tonyan having outside leverage before the ball is even snapped. With the single-high safety shaded to the trips side, there’s no chance.
When targeting Lazard, Rodgers was 5/6 for 60 yards and 1 TD (147.9 QB Rating). Packers just running verts in the red zone and Rodgers is reading the release on the right. With the CB on Lazard playing inside, Rodgers flips a back shoulder throw for the touchdown.
I think that’ll do it for now, because I think you’ve all had enough of numbers and dots.
I've always been told the script is the first 15-20 plays of the game, is that correct? Also I would be curious what the numbers look like running the ball wide zone/outside zone vs. inside zone runs. Love what you do. Reading/watching these make me feel like a smarter watcher of football.
