Hello! It’s been a while. How are you all? You look good. Whatever you did with your hair is terrific.
I’m currently going through an in-depth look at the Packers 2021 offense. I spent a month or so splitting & tagging, and am now living in spreadsheets while also filtering through similar plays and watching them over and over again. Glamorous stuff, I know.
While doing all that, I wanted to take a quick break and walk through the three times the three times the Packers threw to a receiver off a Glance RPO.
For the most part, the Packers live in a pre-snap read, horizontally-thrown RPO world. Maybe partially due to the skill set of Davante Adams in space on those horizontal throws, but also perhaps partially due to the comfort level of Aaron Rodgers. Pre-snap reads can be simple, but they can also be limiting.
The Glance RPO is a post-snap read, pushing vertically by targeting a conflict defender. It’s a little trickier, but when it works it’s beautiful. I’m hoping to see more of these in 2022.
