Stokes being Stokes, Amos grabbing an INT and Safety rotation
or, fun on the defensive side of the ball
The offensive side of the ball got some love already, but I wanted to make sure the defense got some shine as well. I’m not nearly as well-versed on that side of the ball, but when a team pitches a shutout, they deserve some attention.
We’re going to start off with 3 plays from Eric Stokes. I liked him coming out of college, mainly because of the bonkers speed and the fact that he played in an advanced defensive system in Georgia. But there were points in his game that I had concerns about. So far, he’s been showing a lot of great stuff and that continued against the Seahawks.
Next up, a little safety talk. When I first started digging into the coaches film (back in 2012, I believe), I did it for 2 main reasons: to see wide receiver routes and to watch the safeties. I’ve always been fascinated with those areas that primarily take place off the broadcast screen, so I wanted to see how it all fit together. If there was a bust, why was there a bust? If there was an interception, what was the quarterback seeing? It’s still an area I’m fascinated with, so I love seeing moments like this from the Packers: the two safeties working off each other and passing off assignments with ease.
Last up, we’re looking at the Adrian Amos INT. The Seahawks were showing a Portland concept and hoping to get Amos to bite on the intermediate route to spring open the shot. Amos did not comply.
And, lastly, the defensive line showed up and did some work. Yeah, the Seahawks offensive line wasn’t a gang of world-beaters, but still nice to watch dominance.
