Before we all head into what is likely to be a busy weekend, I wanted to take a few minutes to look back on some more plays from the Packers NFC North clinching win. As I’ve been doing in this space, I recorded some videos with lots of messy scribbling and my big dumb voice talking about what happened, why it happened, and the like.
We’ve got 6 videos this week. I had a lot of fun digging in this week, so I hope you enjoy watching these half as much as I did recording them.
Play 1
We’ll kick it off with one of my favorite plays: the insane throw to MVS in the middle of the field.
While that throw itself is God-tier (what else is new?), I wanted to dig in a bit to the concept itself (Smash Fade) and why Rodgers went to MVS instead of his normal read to the fade route.
Play 2
I don’t usually spend a lot of time with the running game - mainly because I’m severely lacking in knowledge in that part of the game - but I wanted to dig into the AJ Dillon touchdown run a bit and highlight a key block from Nijman.
Play 3
Next up, we take a look at the seam throw to Tyler Davis. The throw itself is really nice, and it works off the idea of Drift, in attacking the zone vacated by play action.
Play 4
On 3rd & 11, the Packers were looking to score a TD to put the game away and also get Rodgers the record for most passing TDs in Packers history. The concept itself was nice and it sprung Lazard, but the throw was just a bit off. We dig into the idea behind that concept and how the Ravens responded to the releases from the WRs.
Play 5
The Packers throw a lot of RPO bubble screens to Davante Adams. Sometimes they throw it if they have the offensive numbers advantage, but sometimes they throw it just because Davante Adams is Davante Adams. Here, we look at a RPO Smoke look, and how the Ravens baited Rodgers into the throw, and why Rodgers pulled it down.
Play 6
Lastly, we’re going back to a quick-game staple of the Packers: Stick. We look at two examples, including one with Lazard running a Lookie route on the backside.
Happy Holidays!
