I wanted to take a few minutes and walk through an RPO the Bills scored a touchdown off of against the Patriots.
Watching the Packers as much as I do, I see a lot of the bubble RPOs, but not much else. And that’s okay! Those types of RPOs work for the Packers because Aaron Rodgers has an incredibly fast release and Davante Adams is a wizard with his footwork. The goal of an RPO is to make the defense wrong, and that connection can make a lot of defenses wrong.
But there is a world of RPOs we don’t see in Green Bay. This touchdown is a nice vertical-stretching RPO with a Glance route. Where the Green Bay RPO game is essentially a pre-snap game - “do we have more blockers on that side than they have defenders?” - this is a post-snap read. The Bills want to either run into a light box or throw into an empty middle of the field.
