Basic Coverage Shells: A Primer
or, I guess I'm just dressing up videos and reposting them at this point
The season is here. Well…it’s basically here. We’ve got Rams/Bills tonight, and the Packers play on Sunday. We did it.
To get ready for the season - and because I got bored - I wanted to roll through a look at some basic coverage structures you’re likely to see on Sundays. It is by no means comprehensive, because it is not meant to be. It’s a high-level look at the two basic coverage families, the main coverage looks in each family and the main weaknesses of each. Kind of a way to remind myself of that stuff, as well as to get all of us ready for football.
The two main coverage families/coverages we looked at were:
Middle of Field Open (MOFO)
Cover 0
Cover 2
Cover 4 (Quarters)
Cover 6 (Quarter-Quarter-Half)
Middle of Field Closed (MOFC)
Cover 1 (Man Free)
Cover 3
I was going to include some images for reference in this article, but I didn’t. I never said it was a good story.
