Like I’m trying to do every week, I thought I’d use this space to take stock of my week. I am very tired and, quite frankly, I’d like to know where all that time went. My football self has a lot to answer for.
So what did I do? Let’s find out.
I had a couple film room videos: some good, some bad. I talked about a deep crosser concept that could have gone for a big gain, were it not for those meddling kids (or the receivers crashing into each other other whatever).
Next up, there was quite a bit of chatter this week when a clip made the rounds of Romeo Doubs running free on a drag route on 3rd down while Rodgers went all Leeroy Jenkins and chucked a ball deep to the middle of the field. “WHY DID HE DO THAT,” came the cries. “WHY DOES RODGERS NOT SEE EVERY RECEIVER ON THE FIELD AT ALL TIMES?” I attempted to look at the concept and how the defense was playing to answer that question.
The Packers ran their Play Action Bootleg concept 3 times against the Bucs, and each way was slightly different. I - and I alone - thought the differences were interesting enough to talk about.
In this space, I wrote how the Packers fared with their RPO game in week 3. There’s either a shift coming or the Packers really liked this match-up against the Bucs, because they used more vertical-pushing RPOs this week than they ever have. Like, more vertical RPOs in this game than they usually do over the course of an entire season. I did a little video for that one, as well, talking about the 3 I liked the most.
Lastly on the video front, I took a look at the broader NFL to find my favorite red zone passing concepts of the week. I walked through 9 that I really liked, and one that was so terrible I just had to bring it up.
I also did a few articles.
For Cheesehead TV, I took a look at the Packers passing game overall, then dug into 4 instances of the Packers running the Drift/Strike concept in week 3.
For Packer Report, I wrote about Preston Smith blowing up a reverse in the backfield, and pondered what might have happened if he didn’t.
Also for Packer Report, I wrote about the Packers springing Allen Lazard open on a rub route on 3rd down, and what Rodgers was peeking at before he came back to Lazard.
That’s…what? By my count, 4 written articles and 5 videos. Quite frankly, I’m sick of hearing myself talk, so I’m shutting down my computer and not looking at it again until Sunday.
As always, big up to anyone who read/listened to even a single word of this. I do all this because I’m curious and want to learn more about football, so I’m thankful for all of you that are along for the ride.
